Chevy, GMC Truck Owners Are Getting Settlement Cash

Thanks to a proposed settlement on a class action lawsuit, General Motors is about to pay money to Chevy and GMC truck owners. This includes certain Duramax diesel versions of the Sierra and Silverado, with some people getting thousands of dollars from the automaker.

Ford Expedition owner gets almost $57 million in lawsuit.

At the heart of the lawsuit are allegedly defective Bosch CP4 high-pressure diesel fuel injection pumps. They were used on certain 2011 through 2016 GM trucks equipped with the Duramax diesel 6.6-liter V8 LML engine, as announced recently by JND Legal Administration.

Perhaps you already had problems with your truck’s fuel pump and you’re cussing up a storm right now. Apparently, a lot of people have dealt with catastrophic failure on theirs, some multiple times. For your trouble, the settlement could provide anywhere from an estimated $400 to $12,700 depending on your situation.

But there are of course caveats. You had to have bought your pickup from a GM-authorized dealership anywhere from March 1, 2010 to September 13, 2024 in California, New York, Texas, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, or Pennsylvania.

The settlement cash is to cover financial damages from the fuel pump failing, not any personal injuries. If the factory warranty covered repairs, that doesn’t qualify for the settlement. However, you don’t have to still own the truck to get some of the settlement cash, just you won’t get as much.

As part of the settlement, GM is maintaining its stance that the Bosch CP4 fuel pump isn’t defective and that it didn’t do anything wrong. The settlement is just to end a legal battle which is expensive for the automaker.

Truck owners are going to have their own opinion on this issue, especially if they’ve had to replace the fuel pump multiple times or one grenaded, causing damage to other fuel system components.

If you want to see if your truck qualifies you for the settlement cash, you can run the VIN on this website.
