Driving too fast for the rainy conditions, that’s what Washington State Patrol says triggered a massive 45-car pileup on Interstate 5 in Kent on Sunday, October 27. The accident completely shut down traffic in one direction as troopers called in ambulances for the injured and 18 tow trucks to haul away all the disabled vehicles.

A clown mask proved to be a fleeing suspect’s downfall.

It was raining at the time of the accident, something we would think people in the Seattle area would know how to handle with ease. But we also know people get impatient on the road and fail to adjust for weather and other conditions, which can lead to chain reactions like this.

Thankfully, no life-threatening injuries were involved in the multi-car crash, reports Fox 13 Seattle. That alone is a miracle, because usually big pileups like this involve critically wounded if not some people killed.

One witness said traffic came to a complete stop for a reason unknown to him. He said the rain cut visibility way down. That’s when cars started colliding as drivers struggled to stop their vehicle in time. This is why not only going too fast but following too closely and not paying attention to what’s happening down the road are bad habits to build.

A few drivers were able to escape the carnage without hitting anyone or getting hit. Call it luck, we’ll call it being attentive while behind the wheel.

If you are driving on a highway and it’s raining, snowing, foggy, etc. so visibility is cut significantly, slowing down and being ready to stop suddenly is a must. Driving like it’s normal conditions leads to crashes like this. We can’t believe people don’t realize this but they obviously don’t or they don’t care.
