A couple in Washington, D.C. are upset after their BMW was stolen with their three cats inside, the vehicle having been recovered but the felines still not returned. We see far too many cases like this where pets are taken by car thieves and never given back to their loving owners, either ditched or kept by the thieves, and it’s just heartbreaking.
City spends a fair amount on EVs and some people think it’s extravagant.
Before you judge this couple for leaving their beloved animals in their Bimmer, hear their story. According to NBC Washington, the couple was in the middle of moving and had their three felines in a carrier inside their BMW SUV parked outside their house. That’s when someone decided to help themselves.
It wasn’t late at night either but at 3 pm on October 24 when someone jumped in their vehicle and took off. Sadly, one of them left the Bimmer running as it sat outside the house so that the cats wouldn’t overheat, and that’s how the thief was able to take their ride so quickly.
Surveillance footage from another house reportedly shows a sedan make a sudden U-turn and circle back to the couple’s house. A man jumped out and got into the BMW quickly, driving off before anyone could react. This is how opportunistic car thieves are and why leaving your vehicle running like that is a bad idea.
Thanks to the GPS tracker in the Bimmer, police were able to get the SUV back. While it had minor collision damage, the real gut punch was that the cats and their carrier were gone. Other items from inside the vehicle were found ditched in a nearby alley.
Did the thief take a liking to the cats? Did they sell them? Whatever the story, the couple understandably wants them back.
Car thieves are pretty much the worst.
