Some might think an Arkansas trooper can wreck out suspect cars without any consequences, but that simply isn’t true. Case in point: this trooper was suspended after crashing into this fleeing Chevy Malibu. We’ve included the dashcam footage so you can see the pursuit and collision for yourself, then decide if the suspension was justified.
Watch an Arkansas trooper trash his cruiser while chasing a fleeing Dodge Charger.
We’re unsure what the reason for initiating the traffic stop was, but we do know the suspect didn’t pull over to find out. There could be a whole range of reasons for that. According to the YouTube channel which shared the footage, the trooper was helping with making the traffic stop at the request of Little Rock Police Department, so there’s obviously a deeper story here.
This person pulls a brief fake-out like they’re pulling over, then takes off on a transition ramp to another highway. That’s when the chase is really on and it’s obvious the suspect will do whatever it takes to get away.
After exiting the highway, the Chevy Malibu shoots along a frontage road at about the same speed. The driver blows through a red light, which easily couldn’t ended in a fatality, launching the American sedan into the air as the intersecting road was crowned.
Trying to make a right turn, our suspect instead hits a fire hydrant on a street corner. The trooper perhaps thought the Chevy was going to start off-roading, because he came in hot right behind and that’s when he slams into the rear of the Malibu.
The fire hydrant busts as the Chey’s back end deforms and LRPD in an unmarked Ford Focus pull up to make the arrest. In the meantime, the ASP cruiser and the Malibu get a nice shower.
As shown at the beginning of the video, the trooper was suspended for one day after what was reportedly his third “avoidable collision” in a span of 16 months. Do you agree that the trooper could have or should have avoided this crash? Or was he just doing his job well?
