A Tesla Cybertruck which famously had been abandoned, then vandalized in Seattle just auctioned off to the highest bidder today. The exact amount it went for remains a mystery, but we did see a bid of at least $1,400 before the online auction ended, so it was for that if not more.
Cybertruck at a street takeover runs over the crowd.
In a way, we can’t believe anyone paid good money for the Cybertruck. After all, the thing is damaged all over, with the listing plainly stating that. You can see how people on the Seattle street took out their misdirected hostility on the body panels, fender trim, bumpers, windows – you name it.
While the driver’s side rear wheel was sitting at a sick angle in a photo posted to Reddit before the Cybertruck was scooped up and auctioned by Copart, that seems to have been fixed previous to the auction. However, overall the damage on the truck is far worse than in that original image.
As word about the expensive all-electric truck seemingly abandoned on the side of a road in Seattle spread, people started leaving tombstones, flowers, photos, and notes as part of a makeshift memorial.
Someone even tagged the location of the Tesla on Google Maps so others could find it easily. Needless to say, the Cybertruck, which some mockingly called the “Cyberstuck,” became a weird attraction in the area.
But as the New York Post noted, the owner allegedly “was not happy” with all the attention. We can’t imagine why, considering some decided to take their rage out on the vehicle.
Supposedly, the owner got into an accident with a younger driver and was trying to figure out repairs through insurance. If you’ve ever dealt with an insurance claim, you know it can take a while, especially if there’s an accident and two companies are trying to communicate with each other.
Fed up with the spectacle, some say the city had the Cybertruck towed. Eventually, it ended up at a lot that works with Copart and since it was totaled, whether from the initial accident or all the vandalism, it was put up for auction.
What someone will do with this thing remains to be seen. The listing didn’t say anything about whether it would even drive, but we’re assume it had become a giant paperweight. Obviously, someone saw at least some value in the Cybertruck.
