Stolen cars are smuggled across the Mexico border all the time, but sometimes they’re caught. A recent case involving a swiped Ram 1500 shines a light on this, but some we suspect won’t like how the case is being handled.

Florida HOA hires a tow company, which starts taking cars from driveways.

According to Loredo Morning Times, the incident in question happened back on October 1 but we’re just now hearing about it. An officer from Laredo Police Department was reportedly monitoring traffic on the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge, specifically looking for stolen vehicles when he got a hit.

It was just after 3 am when the officer pulled over a 2022 Ram 1500 as it was approaching the toll booth. Behind the wheel of the stolen pickup truck was a 21-year-old woman, Roxanna Azeneth Vidales. An unnamed 19-year-old male was a passenger in the truck.

Naturally you’d expect Vidales would be arrested, and she was.  However, she wasn’t kept in custody. Instead, the report indicates she bonded out but has been served with arrest warrants for theft of property and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

We think a lot of people will find it outrageous someone who was trying to escape the country in a stolen vehicle is allowed to walk free like that.

Also not included in the report is how the officer initially knew the truck was stolen or possibly stolen. We assume license plate readers are used on the bridge, but nothing of the sort is mentioned.

There are precious few details about this case. But one thing we know is oftentimes theft rings will pay drivers relatively large amounts to transport stolen rides from one place to another, including across the border into Mexico. And if those drivers are caught, sometimes the ring will bail them out since they need that employee to keep working.

Has Vidales been engaging in more illegal activities while she’s out of jail? We don’t know, but we’ve seen plenty of people involved in car thefts go right back to work once they bond out. It’s a business after all.
