For many families, there’s a car that’s basically a child, maybe even a little more than that, which seems to be the case with a 1973 Corvette stolen out of the East Bay area of California. However, it was social media which led to its recovery in one piece, a true Christmas miracle which made the owner cry.
Carjacking at the US border leads to a huge police chase.
That owner stored his beloved ‘Vette, which belonged to his late father, in the warehouse of his business. However, overnight there was a break-in and when the man arrived, he was distraught to find the classic sports car gone.
Rather than just waiting on the police to track the vehicle down, the man’s wife and daughter took to the most powerful tool they had for spreading word of the theft: social media. Pretty soon the dad was also participating in the effort.
But if you’ve ever tried looking for help finding a stolen car on Facebook, Instagram, and other social sites you know the scammers are everywhere. Some offer their “services” to help track down your vehicle, for an upfront fee. Others will claim to have your property and demand a ransom to hand it back over, even though they likely are on the other side of the world.
That’s why the owner was immediately skeptical when someone called to tell him they had his Corvette. He had other calls like that, so the guy was smart and asked questions only someone who was with the Chevy could answer. They did and the man realized the hunt was finally over – it was a true Christmas miracle.
We know not all stolen car stories have such a happy ending. While this ’73 ‘Vette only suffered a few scratches, others never find their beloved ride or get it back disassembled, sometimes only getting back pieces.
