The Angelese Crest Highway outside of Los Angeles, California was the scene of yet another Porsche 911 GT3 RS crashing. This time the accident was so bad the driver has to be airlifted to a hospital, his car having run off the road and down a steep embankment.
Would you grab this 1968 Porsche 912?
It happened back on December 14 at Mile Marker 61, according to YouTube channel Fox First On Scene Photography, which uploaded footage from the emergency response. The driver and a few other details are blurred out for obvious reasons.
What we can see, although it’s not the focus of the video, is the orange Porsche 911 GT3 RS overturned on its roof. After the performance car went off the highway on a sweeping turn, it tumbled about 50 feet away down a steep embankment.
The driver was found in critical condition by first responders. That’s why you see in the footage authorities, which include US National Forestry Fire, LASD Montrose Search and Rescue, and LASD Air Rescue 5 blocking off the highway as a medical helicopter lands to take the victim to a hospital for life saving treatment.
There was another crash between two Porsche 911s on Angeles Crest back in September, which we covered at the time. This sort of thing happens on that road far too often.
Even though the video doesn’t show the crash, we can say from personal experience that many drivers take the turns on this canyon road far too fast. A lot of guys who have performance rides like this Porsche feel that makes them invincible. But any car pushed too far will go out of control and that’s when crazy accidents happen.
You see a yellow Porsche 911 Turbo parked on the side of the road by where the GT3 RS went over the edge. We’d be willing to bet these two were racing each other or at least egging each other on to push harder on the challenging turns. Sadly, it didn’t turn out well for the one and his buddy had to watch him carried out in critical condition.
