Accidents happen, but when a 2000 Ford SVT Cobra R that’s one of only 300 made is on the receiving end, it’s enough to make a grown man cry. Quite a few fans of the pumped-up pony car have been emotional at seeing this one, which was sitting in a dealership showroom, battered and broken.
Watch a Mustang run from the police, then hide in plain sight.
Images of the crash aftermath shared to Facebook show a Mazda crossover sitting with its rear against the Cobra R, the passenger door concaved and the windshield shattered. It happened in Eden, North Carolina at Tri-City Ford, where the rare pony sits as a proud testament to Ford’s dedication to automotive performance.
After all, the SVT Cobra R was built for one thing: performance. There’s no backseat, no radio, and little noise insulation. Engineered to be a track weapon, this particular one of 300 has presided over a showroom, eager car shoppers gawking at it while attempting to secure financing for their pickup or plusher, more modern Mustang.
We assume the car is going to be fully repaired and put back in its display spot inside the dealership. But the crash no doubt has diminished the market value for the low-mileage example, although to the dealership it’s a powerful marketing tool, maybe even more valuable after the crash.
From the looks of things, someone got reverse and drive mixed up on the Mazda grocery getter. The crossover appears to have backed up into the dealership’s showroom from the parking stalls just outside, the type of accident we see all too often at gas stations and elsewhere.
It sounds like nobody was hurt in the accident, and that in the end is what matters most. The Cobra R will be repaired and nervous car shoppers will continue to marvel at its presence, many never realizing the passenger door was crushed by someone who can’t operate their vehicle correctly.
