Back on January 19, Florida Highway Patrol broke up a street takeover in Orange County. As participants scattered in their cars, troopers pursued and captured several of them. We now have dashcam footage of one of the chases involving a convertible Mustang.

Fleeing from police, a street takeover participant damages over a dozen parked cars.

The footage starts with the trooper chasing the Mustang on a two-lane road, warning the suspect he will PIT him if he continues to run. Of course, the guy doesn’t just pull over and take he harsh punishment coming to him, choosing instead to flee and increase his punishment further – such a logical decision.

To try getting away from the trooper, the suspect drives on the shoulder, hides his pony car behind innocent bystanders’ vehicles, and in general behaves recklessly. We would expect nothing less from a person who thinks street takeovers are a fun way to spend an evening.

This guy thinks if he just nails it he can get away. But for some interesting reason he won’t cross that double yellow line much at all and go into the oncoming lane of traffic. Could it be fear? We don’t know and we’re glad he doesn’t since head-on crashes like that are often fatal.

It does mean when he runs into the next group of cars on the road going the same way, he slows down enough to let the trooper get beside him. At the same time, more troopers come the opposite direction, blocking any escape.

FHP is flooding the area, bringing everything they have, bottling up escape routes, something we’ve seen them do before with street takeover busts. Like in those other instances, it works to bring this Mustang down as troopers surround the car, holding the driver at gunpoint.

Because street takeover people are so brilliant, he rolls his window down only partway and doesn’t open his door. Troopers don’t like that very much, threatening to break his window. They eventually get the passenger door open and our suspect gets some shiny new bracelets plus three square meals a day.
