Plenty of people have dealt with a shady towing company, so to see the owner of one get arrested for car theft feels like a bit of vindication. The details of what authorities say happened to a North Carolina man’s 1967 Chevy Camaro and how the towing company tried to keep it is enough to make your blood boil.
Watch a Ram driver taunt troopers, then face the consequence.
The strange story, according to Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, starts back on January 16 when the Camaro’s owner, one Tim McManus, was pulled over and subsequently arrested by a Rowan County deputy after it was discovered he didn’t have a valid driver’s license.
Because McManus was arrested, the Camaro was taken by Lebleu’s Towing, as requested by the sheriff’s office.
Once McManus was released from custody, he went to LeBleu’s Towing after it was closed, located the Camaro in the storage lot, and took it without paying the fines. Sheriff investigators determined what happened, charged McManus, then returned the Chevy to LeBlue.
Apparently learning his lesson, once McManus was released again he borrowed some cash from a friend so he could get the Camaro out of the tow lot. However, McManus got in trouble with the law again for an unrelated case and was arrested a third time.
That’s when the friend took the Camaro back to LeBlue’s Towing, selling it to the company’s owner, Jeremy Good, for the amount of money lent to McManus, which apparently hadn’t been paid back.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office says after that Good submitted documents to the clerk’s office for Rowan and Cabarrus Counties to assert his claim to the Camaro’s title, making him the new owner. To back that claim up, he stated McManus still owed $7,290 in fees for the Chevy’s storage from September 2022 to April 2023.
Digging for evidence, investigators uncovered a search warrant that was executed at McManus’ resident on March 9, 2023. As part of the case files, they found bodycam footage which showed the Camaro at the house, not at the tow yard.
With that hard evidence, authorities arrested Good and hit him with five felony charges: Uttering a Forged Instrument, Obtaining Property by False Pretense, Altering/Forging Title, and two counts of Making False Affidavit/Perjury.
We’ve seen towing companies engage in all kinds of shady business, including stealing vehicles. For now, Good is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and the investigation into him is ongoing. But we have no love lost for towing services that take advantage of people or break the law.
