Gas-Powered Dodge Chargers Return This Summer

It’s been a while since new gas-powered Dodge Chargers have rolled into dealerships, but that dry spell is about to end. This summer, the Dodge Charger Sixpack will make its market debut in two- and four-door formats. Just don’t expect a Hemi in either one.

Gas prices are at a four year low.

Instead, the cars will come with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six engine. In the two door Chargers, it will produce a claimed 550-horsepower with the High-Output version of the Hurricane. Four-door models get the Standard-Output engine with 420-hp on tap.

No matter the engine, backing it is the new 88oRE 8-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard, too. In other words, this isn’t like your 2023 Dodge Charger or Challenger.

As we covered before, Stellantis is panicking about low sales for the Dodge lineup and a lack of interest in the all-electric Charger Daytonas. Not only is it giving some killer deals on leases for the latter, it’s also accelerated the release schedule for gas-powered Chargers.

In fact, it’s rumored more ICE versions of the Charger are also launching this summer. We wouldn’t be surprised if Stellantis is trying to get everything out there in a hurry to try spiking sales.

However, it will be an uphill battle for Dodge as consumers are disappointed no V8 power is in the mix. That was a dumb decision supposedly made by Stellantis’ ex-CEO Carlos Tavares. He could just be a scapegoat at this point, but either way it seems changes are coming.

There are indications Dodge is cooking up the return of the Hemi V8 to its lineup, although that hasn’t been officially confirmed. It’s even possible the Hellcat might make a comeback, but we’re not holding out breath waiting for that to happen, either.

What we do know is most people are staying away from new Dodges. That might partly be thanks to inflation and a lack of stability in the job market, plus high interest rates, because the Ford Mustang isn’t exactly flying off lots these days.

Dodge needs a hit soon or it’s going to be facing some tough times that might change the brand further.

  1. Dodge that’s a really big car and almost 3 tons! I’ve bought 6 Dodges and I am done with ya . Your designs and bad parts along with getting rid of 3 big money making cars and the 3 Hemi engines. You want us to wait a year or two to bring them back now? Good ridens.
