Woman Calls AAA Roadside Assistance After Cops Spike Her Tires

In one of the weirdest police chase twists we’ve ever seen, a Utah woman called AAA for help after Utah troopers spiked one of her tires. Never before have we heard of someone calling for roadside assistance during an active pursuit with law enforcement.

A simple traffic stop led to a $1.25 million stolen car bust.

The chase in question went down on Interstate 70 in Sevier County the afternoon of April 9 when a member of Utah Highway Patrol clocked he woman, 45-year-old Annamae Cabalsa Martinez, doing 120 mph. However, once the trooper caught up with her, Martinez had slowed down to 95 mph, which was still speeding.

But as the trooper in his clearly marked UHP cruiser got behind her, his lights and sirens going, she floored it and pushed the vehicle to between 120 and 130 mph, reports KSL. It’s almost like she didn’t want to pull over and face the consequences of her actions.

That’s when troopers set a trap, one of them preparing spikes further down the interstate. However, that attempt was unsuccessful. But a second one after that hit the front driver-side tire, deflating it and bringing the chase to a close.

Stopped on the side of the interstate, Martinez didn’t just give up. She sat inside the vehicle, refusing to get out as commanded by troopers for around 40 minutes. Trooper had no idea what she was doing until AAA transferred a call from Martinez to UHP.

She had called roadside assistance to fix her flat tire, presumably so she could then drive away from troopers. Why she thought that plan would even work is beyond us, but that detail makes us wonder if she was intoxicated. If not, we’re even more concerned she presumably was able to get a driver’s license.

Troopers got on the call with Martinez and were able to persuade her to get out of the car. She was arrested and will have her day in court to explain her actions.
