An Italian motorcyclist who was traveling through Romania took a selfie with a bear not too long before being mauled to death. The man, Omar Farang Zin, was traveling along the scenic Transalpina mountain road, posting photos of the wildlife to his Facebook account as he went.

Zin was clearly enthralled with the alpine landscape, but most especially praised the bears for making his solo road trip memorable. He had no idea just how pivotal the animals would become.
In another photo Zin took, there’s a man standing outside a car, maybe a hundred feet or so from a bear, taking a picture of it as well. People don’t seem to understand how quickly bears can run or how deadly they can be.
From his attitude on Facebook, Zin appeared to have become rather comfortable with the bears, a mistake many tourists in wilderness areas make with dangerous animals. Authorities say he eventually tried handfeeding one, but the bear dragged him into a ravine, mauling him to death, reports the Independent.
Other motorcyclists apparently watched in horror, calling police for help, but it was too late.
When authorities did show up and located Zin’s body, the female bear tried attacking them multiple times. They eventually shot the animal dead, realizing it posed a mortal threat to other humans in the area.
We know this time of the year is when a lot of people go on road trips on their bike or in their car. Many end up at least traveling through wilderness areas and might see some wild animals like bears.
This is a reminder that wild animals are unpredictable and potentially dangerous. You shouldn’t try to feed or pet them. Taking selfies with them is also a bad idea. Learn from Zin’s fateful mistake.
