Ford has just recalled 312,120 Broncos, Rangers, and more thanks to the brake booster suddenly going out. Obviously, this could lead to a crash, since non-boosted brakes require more muscle and time to bring a big, heavy, modern vehicle to a halt.

This unwelcome blast from the past is being blamed on the electronic brake booster module found in 2025 Ford Broncos, Rangers, Expeditions, and F-150s as well as Lincoln Navigators. Thankfully, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration filing says only about one percent of the recalled vehicles are suspected to be affected by the problem.
But you really don’t want to chance it and find out the hard way that your brake booster has suddenly crapped out. For those who don’t get it, this defective item could lead to a crash, so it’s best to just have your dealer check and replace the module, if necessary.
According to Ford, if the electronic brake booster module does “enter into a faulted state” while you’re driving, meaning it just won’t work, it could start working again after you turn the vehicle off. We don’t think finding out would be wise, to be honest.
The fault can also happen when you’re using the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) which is super comforting. After all, the system doesn’t take into account the increased stopping distance, so running into another car could be in your future.
There is a visual indication your brake booster module is in a faulted state: the traction control and ABS lights will turn on. We’re not sure if that’s really all that comforting or not.
So far, there’s only been one crash at low speeds related to this recall. Ford is pushing out an over-the-air software update for the brake booster to see if that fixes it. If not, you can take your ride to a dealership where the proper software will be installed by hand.
And Ford continues to set a new record in recalls this year.
