Ford CEO’s Comment About Electric Mustangs Riles Enthusiasts

Enthusiasts are furious after an old interview with Ford CEO Jim Farley about never making an all-electric Mustang has resurfaces. After all, there’s the existence of the Mach-E, an all-electric crossover Ford has called a Mustang for years.

Feeling the heat, Ford shifts gears.

The interview in question was given back in May 2024 with Autocar. When asked about electrifying the Mustang, Farley said, “One thing I can promise, however, is that we will never make an all-electric Mustang.”

He went on to state that all-electric powertrains are “great for other Fords” but it wouldn’t “be right for Mustang.”

Instead, Farley said he could see the Mustang having hybrid power, while personally fighting to keep the V8 for the iconic pony car. That sounds really great and we remember rolling our eyes when this interview dropped, because it just comes across as empty platitudes.

Well, it’s come back to haunt Ford and Farley as enthusiasts are finally paying attention to what he said over a year ago.

They’re understandably upset because Farley just tried to brush the Mach-E off as not a Mustang. But it not only has the galloping horse badge, plus the same taillights, the official name of the EV is “Ford Mustang Mach-E.” We don’t like using that because everyone knows the thing isn’t really a ‘Stang.

This is what happens when Ford tries to make everyone happy; it will eventually make nobody happy. EV enthusiasts are mad now that Ford is trimming back its electrification efforts as that market niche cools.

And now fans of the modern muscle car aren’t happy their beloved icon was cheapened to sell some all-electric crossovers. We can’t say we blame them in the least, but the delayed reaction is honestly weird.

Still, it’s great to see the car market healing after years of EV bandwagon nonsense.
