Vidalia, Louisiana police have arrested three people in connection with the theft of a stolen 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle, though the vehicle itself has not yet been recovered.
How the Investigation Began
According to police, the theft occurred on July 7, and the car’s owner, Nazarita Franklin, reported it missing on July 10 after discovering that the vehicle, a blue Chevelle with white racing stripes and a cream interior that had belonged to her late husband, was gone.

Suspects Identified
Investigators identified three suspects in connection with the theft: 26-year-old Clifford Eugene Payne III of Vidalia, along with Dantrieze Tyree Scott and Christopher Lamar Chatman Jr., both of Ferriday. As with any pending case, these individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
What Surveillance Footage Showed
Police say surveillance footage showed the suspects removing the Chevelle from a carport and loading it onto a trailer. Investigators believe the vehicle may have been transported toward Baton Rouge, but its whereabouts after that point remain unknown.
Search for the Vehicle Continues
Despite the arrests, detectives have not yet located the Chevelle. Vidalia police are asking anyone with information about the vehicle’s location to come forward as the investigation continues.
