Dashcam Captures Semi Vaulting Over Indiana Interstate Median in Near Miss

A dramatic dashcam video captured during wintry weather shows a semi truck launching over the median of Interstate 469 in northeast Indiana, narrowly missing a southbound driver during a chaotic crash Monday afternoon.

A Truck Goes Airborne

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. near the Maplecrest area of I-469 as traffic moved through winter conditions. Jim Butler of Decatur was driving home from work in Fort Wayne, heading southbound, when the crash unfolded directly in front of him. His dash camera recorded the moment a semi traveling northbound went up and over the concrete median wall separating the lanes.

The footage shows the truck becoming airborne as it crossed into the southbound lanes, with at least one tire detaching and flying into the roadway. Butler’s vehicle narrowly avoided both the truck and the loose tire as debris came down just ahead of him, capturing just how little time drivers had to react as the truck crossed into oncoming traffic.

A Near Miss, Then Uncertainty

The semi didn’t make direct contact with Butler’s vehicle, and the dashcam video ends moments after the near miss, showing the aftermath unfolding on the highway. The exact cause of the crash hasn’t been released, though it happened amid wintry weather conditions that may have affected road traction and vehicle control.

At this time, authorities haven’t confirmed whether anyone was injured in the crash, and no additional details have been released about the condition of the truck driver or whether other vehicles were involved beyond what the video captured.

A Reminder About Winter Driving Risks

The video has since drawn attention for highlighting the dangers of winter driving, especially involving large commercial vehicles. The force required for a semi truck to breach a highway median underscores how quickly conditions can turn life-threatening during adverse weather.

The crash remains under review, and officials haven’t released further information about contributing factors, enforcement actions, or roadway closures following the incident.
