Ford has a real problem with recalls and its latest one is particularly large with over one million, all thanks to software issues. That’s right, this one isn’t for some defect in a part or a bolt that wasn’t torqued to spec but instead is something that over-the-air-updates, a literal overnight solution, will fix if the vehicle is so equipped.
A recent Ford Bronco recall is hilariously tiny.
If your Ford doesn’t get updates like that, you will get to enjoy the comforts and conveniences of your local Ford dealer’s service department. The problem in question has to do with the rear view camera image freezing, going blank, or having a delay.
Yes, Ford has experienced other rear view camera problems recently, so this might seem a little like Ground Hog’s Day. This sort of thing makes us miss when cars were simple and didn’t need all these extra gadgets that fail.
In total, 1,075,299 Fords are included in this recall and in the National Highway Traffic Safey Administration filing, the automaker says it believes each and every one of those vehicles’ rear view cameras will eventually fail.
First, we’ll start with the truck models: 2021 to 2024 F-150 pickups; 2023 to 2024 F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600 Super Duty pickups; plus 2024 Rangers.
Next, the SUVs: 2021 to 2024 Bronco and Edge models, 2023 to 2024 Escape, 2022 to 2024 Expedition, 2021 to 2023 Mach-E, 2021 to 2023 Lincoln Nautilus, 2022 to 2024 Lincoln Navigator, and 2023 to 2024 Lincoln Corsair.
Also, 2022 to 2025 Ford Transit vans are recalled.
Finally, 2024 Mustangs are included.
Thankfully, no major crashes or injuries have been tied to this software issue, but one minor accident was allegedly caused by it. That makes sense since this is something which would really affect not backing into other cars a low speeds in a parking lot.
