A violent police chase involving a stolen Chevrolet Corvette ended with more than 30 shots fired, the death of a suspect, and a California police sergeant injured following a multi-county crime spree that authorities say placed hundreds of people in danger.
The incident began on January 17, when officers responded to reports of a red Chevrolet Corvette that had been stolen. Law enforcement later determined the suspect traveled into the Bay Area, where a series of robberies unfolded as police worked to track the vehicle.
Authorities identified the suspect as 30-year-old Mohamed Husien. Investigators said Husien had previously been involved in the armed carjacking of a green Corvette, pointing to a pattern in the crimes. The stolen vehicle was eventually detected by a license plate reader in San Jose, triggering a police pursuit.
The initial chase ended after the Corvette became disabled. However, the situation escalated further when Husien exchanged gunfire with deputies and then stole another vehicle at gunpoint. He fled once again, heading back toward San Jose, prompting a second pursuit.
That chase came to an end near the intersection of Julian and Terrain streets. As officers attempted to stop the suspect, another gunfight erupted. More than 30 rounds were fired during the exchange. Husien was killed at the scene, and a police sergeant was struck by gunfire.
Emergency responders transported the injured sergeant to a hospital for treatment. Authorities later said the sergeant was in good spirits despite the injuries. Community members and law enforcement organizations quickly rallied to support the injured officer and his family, offering assistance and resources during his recovery.
Police officials said the suspect demonstrated repeated disregard for public safety throughout the incident. The crime spree stretched across multiple counties and involved armed confrontations, stolen vehicles, and robberies, creating serious risk for motorists, residents, and officers.
The sergeant’s actions during the incident were described by colleagues as reflective of the dedication and personal sacrifice required in law enforcement. Even after being injured, his concern focused on responsibilities at home, underscoring the human side of officers placed in dangerous situations.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing as authorities review the sequence of events leading up to the fatal confrontation.
