This is starting to become a trend.
Maybe we’re wrong, but it seems like there was a time when nobody, including the dirtiest criminals, would’ve stolen an ambulance after it showed up to help people involved in a car accident. But it keeps happening, this time in northern Virginia with the suspect causing multiple crashes and leading police on a wild chase that finally ended in Washington, D.C.

According to Virginia State Police, 30-year-old Darell T. Cadwell of Brandywine, Maryland caused a two-vehicle crash the afternoon of August 12 on I-66 while behind the wheel of a truck reported as stolen out of Falls Church. Before troopers could arrive on the scene, Cadwell took off, just minutes later causing a multi-vehicle crash on I-395 in Arlington County.
Five people in the second crash were hurt badly enough to be transported to a local hospital. With the truck unable to drive away, Cadwell ran on foot from the scene. Somehow he got another truck, which he then crashed on George Washington Parkway only minutes later as he drove the wrong way.
As medics pulled up to the scene after responding to the second accident, they started tending to the other driver. Seeing his opportunity, Cadwell jumped in the ambulance and took off. So in less than half an hour he caused three accidents and stole two vehicles.
Seeing a trooper who was in the area thanks to all the chaos, the medics flagged him down to tell him about the stolen ambulance. That trooper was able to track down the ambulance, but Cadwell wasn’t about to give up without a fight.
After a chase, Cadwell did that trick we see so many suspects do, pulling over and acting like they’re giving up. But as the trooper got out of his cruiser, Cadwell threw the ambulance in reverse and hit the trooper’s car. That’s a more vicious version than just speeding off.
Virginia State Police troopers were joined in the pursuit of the ambulance by Arlington County Police. Cadwell led the cops into the nation’s capital, striking at least 13 other cars in his desperate bid to get away using the most conspicuous vehicle. He finally hit a parked vehicle head-on, we’re assuming because he sucks at driving, bringing the chase to a close. That’s when police were able to arrest him.
As if Cadwell hadn’t already caused enough problems, there was a person in the parked car he hit. Luckily, that person only suffered minor injuries, but the insurance claim isn’t going to be fun. But Cadwell is facing a growing list of charges from local law enforcement, federal authorities, and the state of Virginia.
