Atlanta police arrested a driver in possession of a stolen Maserati Levante, once again with paper license plates at the center of the case. These temporary tags remain a favorite tool of thieves because they are so easily forged and duplicated.
The recurring role of paper plates in theft cases has fueled calls for tighter regulation. As long as the tags remain simple to counterfeit, they will continue to help criminals disguise stolen vehicles and evade detection on the road.
