Another 12-Year-Old Carjacker Is Caught In Washington DC

Is this an isolated incident or part of a growing trend?

People are shocked that a 12-year-old was arrested for an armed carjacking in Washington, D.C. on the afternoon of August 20. That unnamed juvenile was arrested later the same day, as indicated in an official press release by Metropolitan Police. Sadly, we’re not shocked by this since we covered two 12-year-olds caught carjacking and robbing multiple victims in Washington, D.C. back in May and an 8-year-old carjacking someone in Alabama in July.

This is Big Altima Energy.

The victim in this latest case said the 12-year-old approached on foot, demanding the keys to the car. Instead of relying on his stature and persuasive speaking skills, the pre-teen was allegedly “holding an object in his waistband that the victim believed was a firearm.”

Even though we love cool cars, no vehicle is worth your life. This is why armed carjackings are typically quite effective. But this victim flat-out refused to hand over the keys, maybe gauging the kid wasn’t willing to back up the threat with actual violence. That’s a gutsy move, or perhaps a stupid one, but it worked out in this instance.

After not getting the car, the 12-year-old took off on foot but officers were able to catch up with him. While arresting the kid, officers reportedly found a firearm on him, although they didn’t say what kind other than a pistol or even what caliber.

Police charged the juvenile with Armed Carjacking (Gun) and Carrying a Pistol Without a License. We have no idea what kind of penalty an underage person in the District faces for such things, but we’d be willing to bet it’s not nearly as severe as what a legal adult would get.

There’s definitely a problem with kids committing violent crimes in this country. While the Kia and Hyundai thefts committed by teenagers and pre-teens are annoying, kids with guns holding victims up to steal their cars is a much worse situation we hope to never face.
