A suspect in a red Nissan Altima fleeing from police in Edgecombe County, North Carolina decided to hide in a Walmart parking lot. Somehow police were able to figure out this simple trick nobody has ever thought of before and arrested the driver.
Speeding C7 Corvette ends up in a canal.
We could blame this incident on the fabled Big Altima Energy and maybe that was at least an influence. But a local news report via CBS17 says the suspect originally ran instead of pulling over after being caught speeding because his driver’s license was revoked.
That’s right, the guy who thought hiding in a Walmart parking lot was pure genius turned a simple violation into something far more serious. Depending on what a suspect does during a chase, they might be facing a felony or two. This guy was slapped with several charges, one of them felony flee to elude. Not a smart choice.
While the pursuit originally started with an Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Deputy, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol jumped in as speed reached 130 mph on U.S. 258. The suspect even blacked the car out, shutting off the lights so it was harder to see and track him.
However, all those tricks didn’t save him in the end, with one of the pursuing law enforcement officers performing a PIT maneuver to stop his fleeing. At least after that the guy came to his senses and was arrested without further incident.
Still, if you do have a suspended license or even a warrant for your arrest, running from the cops will make the situation worse. It’s best to not speed so you don’t get pulled over, but if you do just stop and take the consequences of your actions. Hiding at Walmart never solved any problems.
