Drunk driving is incredibly dangerous, something everyone supposedly knows, and yet it continues to be a problem. Another illustration of what can happen when you get behind the wheel while intoxicated comes via the UK where an allegedly drunk driver flipped another car, the vehicle shooting a shower of sparks as it skidded upside down along the freeway.

Everything was captured on dashcam with the footage shared by The Telegraph, which also gathered details about the crash outcome. In that video, you see the allegedly intoxicated driver in his Volkswagen Polo speeding along, slamming right into the back of a Mitsubishi L200 so hard the pickup truck goes airborne, landing on its roof.
The Mitsubishi skids along the road for a while, causing the man in the camera car to exclaim out loud. Even on video, it’s quite shocking to see.
According to the report, when bystanders got to the Mitsubishi and helped the driver out, his head was covered in blood. However, the man was able to walk away, which is just amazing.
With a greater emphasis on roof strength improvements in newer vehicles, accidents like this one have become survivable where before they often weren’t.
After police arrived on the scene, the VW driver admitted to an officer that he had in fact been drinking, as captured on bodycam. Taking a breathalyzer, he was three times the legal limit and so was arrested.
Later, the man was sentenced to 16 months in prison, but that was suspended for two years. In addition, he received a three-year driving ban and to perform 150 hours of community service.
If that punishment seems harsh to anyone, we have quite a few stories of innocent people killed by drunk drivers which should change your mind. Don’t drink and drive, especially in this day and age where rideshare apps make getting a driver to take you home so quick and easy.
