Paralyzed Former Congressman Allegedly Crashes Into Florida Trooper, Injuring Him

People are in disbelief after Madison Cawthorn, a former United States Representative from North Carolina, allegedly crashed into a Florida Highway Patrol cruiser, injuring the trooper inside. What’s most shocking about the incident is Cawthorn has been paralyzed from the waist down for years.

A car rental agency has been accused of renting stolen cars, then stealing them from customers.

Multiple media outlets have been reporting on this incident, but one user on X, named Alethea, uploaded footage of the aftermath. It shows someone who looks an awful lot like Cawthorn in a wheelchair on the side of the road, a wrecked Mercedes a little further down the road.

That X user claims she was tailgated by the paralyzed former Congressman before he rear ended the trooper’s Dodge Charger. While not everyone is buying every last detail of her story since the account is obviously quite politically motivated in the opposite orientation as Cawthorn (she’s a socialist Swiftie, after all), the video footage is compelling.

Newsweek was able to speak with an FHP spokesman who would only disclose that the a trooper was in fact rear ended by a Mercedes and that the other driver was a 28-year-old man from Cape Coral. Those details line up with Cawthorn, so many are taking that as absolute confirmation it was him.

Details about the accident are scarce at the moment. Alethea on X admitted she didn’t see it, only claiming to have been tailgated by the “sports car” and seeing the aftermath. What we do know is the collision happened in a construction zone on I-75 at mile marker 60.

Ultimately, this is a great reminder to slow down, don’t tailgate, and take your time getting places. This is especially true in construction zones. As many people are about to embark on vacations, road tripping around the country it’s easy to forget safe habits while you’re trying to have fun.
