Many enthusiasts keep their beloved cars in secured storage units for a variety of reasons, but one of them is that they believe such a place is safe. However, once in a while we see cases like this one out of Granite Bay, California where a thief or thieves broke into a couple and swiped two collectable vehicles.
The rate of car theft in the United States has increased yet again.
According to Placer County Sheriff’s Office, the blue 1974 BMW 3.0 CS and silver 2005 Aston Martin DB9 pictured were taken from two separate storage units in a commercial complex. The public has been asked to keep an eye out for these two rather unique rides.
The BMW has a California vanity license plate “DCCOUPE” so that might be a further clue, even if someone took it off and kept it as a trophy or gave it to someone else. The Aston Martin’s California tag is “7EXV572.”
Both vehicles were stolen at around 4 am on February 9. We know it’s been a while, but often thieves will lay low when they’ve stolen something so distinct, then resurface and try to sell off or drive around in the vehicles thinking everyone’s forgotten about them.
Whether you have your beloved collectable cars at your house, in a storage unit, or wherever else you decide to keep them, we recommend having at least two trackers active on your ride just in case someone does steal it. Even if they find and disable one, they might not locate the second tracker, which is why we say to have the backup.
Also, if you have set up a security camera which records to the cloud, even in a storage unit, that can be helpful in tracking down thieves.
