Unfortunately, big parking garages often make prime targets for car thieves who view them as fertile hunting grounds. That’s likely what happened in Memphis, Tennessee when a suspect found a way around the security gate at an office building’s garage in the middle of the night, stealing a restored 1953 Chevy 210 and trailer.
Beloved local restaurant destroyed in a police chase.
It all happened in the early morning hours of July 10 as the suspect in his old truck simply had to hop a curb to get past the parking lot gate, reports WREG. It’s sad that someone felt the classic Chevy was going to be safe when security was so easily circumvented.
The victim, Bryson Lochemes, told WREG the guy originally arrived with a female in the truck. The thief drove the Chevy 210 away while the woman drove the truck. He showed up a couple hours later alone and hitched up the trailer, taking it as well.
You’ll note the bed of the truck is full of tires. That’s an interesting detail which might help someone identify this thief.
Others have reported this same suspect has stolen personal property and sold it. Perhaps someone will recognize the truck, the man, or the stolen Chevy 210. Anyone with information should call CrimeStoppers at (901)528-CASH
Unfortunately for Lochemes, he says the classic Chevy can’t be replaced. It was originally a high school graduation present for his son. After restoring the vehicle for two years, it’s gone and he hasn’t had the heart to tell his son yet. Plus, Lochemes is holding out hope it’s recovered in good condition.
Memphis, along with other cities in the US, have quite the problem with car theft. At this point it might seem like no vehicle is safe from thieves. There are steps you can take to secure your ride, including installing an alarm, kill switch, GPS trackers, and keeping it out of sight in a fortified building.
