There are a few reasons why some dealerships insist a salesman comes along during test drives. One of them is to make sure you don’t hoon the car like you stole it. Another is to guard against you actually stealing it. But for a man in the New Orleans, Louisiana area that still didn’t stop him from trying to carjack an Audi form the employee.
Car salesman gets arrested while taking a customer’s car for a spin.
The man, 39-year-old Reginald Vaughn, went to an Audi dealership on the late morning of July 30, ostensibly to shop for a new ride. While browsing, one of the salesmen asked if he’d like to take one particular car for a test drive. The employee would soon regret asking.
According to local news station NOLA, in the middle of the seemingly normal test drive, Vaughn stopped the Audi in the road. While reaching for his waistband, he allegedly told the salesman, “This is where you get out or I will shoot you.”
In that situation, you have one of two options. The first is to get out of the vehicle as fast as possible, hoping the guy doesn’t shoot you anyway. We know some people think complying with what a thief wants means you won’t get hurt, but that’s not necessarily true.
The second option was to fight. That’s what the dealership employee did.
Fearing for his life, the salesman held Vaughn’s arms down as the would-be carjacker slammed on the accelerator. During the struggle, the employee was able to stop the Audi, but the fight escalated as the two exchanged blows. Thankfully, Vaughn didn’t produce a firearm.
When a bystander came over to see what the commotion was about, the salesman asked for help, explaining that Vaughn was trying to carjack him. Vaughn ran off but police later found him.
This wasn’t Vaughn’s first rodeo. He apparently was already on probation after getting caught burglarizing cars in the airport’s parking garages. Yes, these are the people who break into your ride while you’re off relaxing on vacation.
