Minivan Reverses Across Busy Road, Slamming Into A KFC

In a bizarre twist, a minivan driver in Gwinnett County, Georgia drove in reverse across four lanes of traffic, hopped a curb, and slammed into KFC restaurant on Highway 78. Usually when people accidentally crash into restaurants they’re parked in front and hit the gas instead of the brakes. But this situation was even wilder than that.

Watch police PIT a minivan so hard the driver falls out.

Footage of the aftermath taken by a bystander using their cellphone and shared by WSB-TV shows a newer Toyota Sienna outside the fried chicken joint as pedestrians are milling around, checking out the damage.

The front bumper cover on the minivan appears to have been partially torn off, likely when the back wheels rolled over the curb. We can’t see in the footage what the rear end of the vehicle looks like or just how much damage it did to the building, although it doesn’t appear to have been much.

According to WSB-TV, there’s been zero word from police on what might have caused such a bizarre accident. It’s possible the female driver thought she put the transmission into drive when it was in reverse, then kept pressing on the accelerator instead of the brake pedal while panicking.

People can do funny thing in emergency situations. It’s just amazing the vehicle made its way across four lanes of traffic without hitting another car, which would’ve ensured a much worse result.

There’s also the possibility this was caused by a medical episode, something we see fairly often. Intoxication is also something we can almost guarantee police have at least considered, even if it was ruled out quickly.

It’s also unknown if anyone was hurt in the crash. While it’s possible the driver or someone else in the minivan might have sustained some injuries, even something as simple as flying glass could’ve injured someone inside the restaurant.

This is why exercising caution and being ready to stop your vehicle if something goes wrong is key for all drivers.
