Gas thefts had been off our radar for a while, but a rash of them in Southern California may be the start of a new wave. This time, someone is drilling directly into fuel tanks to drain them, leaving owners with costly repairs.
The crude method does far more damage than simple siphoning, turning a theft of cheap fuel into an expensive headache. Owners in affected areas are being urged to stay vigilant.
