With the values of many classic American muscle cars reaching obscene levels, thieves have been going to extraordinary lengths to steal them. This includes damaged, rusted-out examples sitting in fields, which is exactly what happened to a beloved 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 that was stolen in Oklahoma.
How long can you leave a car parked without damage?
Now the owner of the vehicle is asking the public for help locating it. The Mach 1 has quite a bit of sentimental value since it’s a car he bought with his high school graduation money, then sold before heading off to college, then bought off the latter owner recently with plans to restore it before his big 50th high school reunion.
The Mustang is a little worse for wear in part because it was rescued from a devastating house fire, suffering some scorch marks to the front end. After some haggling on the phone, the guy bought it back and had high hopes to get it restored by 2026 in time for his Catoosa High School Class of 1976 reunion.
Because so many people remember the Mach 1, the owner thought it would be a great way to connect with his old classmates. But some thieves thought it would be a great score.
Instead of putting it in a secure facility, the owner decided to store in on a field owned by his friend. There are many other cars sitting in the field, but the thieves must have realized what this one was. They cut through a wire fence plus a line of trees, then dragged the Mach 1 onto a trailer, putting in significant effort to steal it.
The car’s VIN is 0F05H193967. Even though it was stolen in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area that was in mid-August, so it could be anywhere by now. If you know anything about the theft, contact Tulsa Police. Just know the owner is offering a $3,000 reward.
