Toronto police have floated a fairly hands-on answer to the city’s surge in vehicle thefts: retractable driveway bollards. The idea was shared by 53 Division on X back on August 18, though it didn’t exactly catch fire online, drawing only a couple dozen likes.
Underrated as the suggestion may be, a sturdy physical barrier blocking a car from leaving the driveway is a genuinely effective deterrent. For owners worried about thieves, it’s a low-tech idea worth a second look.
