As the Mountain Fire destroyed homes in Camarillo Heights, California recently a group of first responders made a daring rescue of two classic cars trapped in a garage as the house was engulfed in flames. The firefighters and deputies are being hailed as heroes.
Firefighter’s truck stolen as he rescued a town.
Certainly it was a heroic act, especially as the owner of the vehicles told some of the details to KCAL. Realizing the house was already a loss, they could see the garage hadn’t been affected yet. To push the two classic cars out before they too were destroyed, those rescuers had to cut through the garage door.
Those two cars, a Triumph and MGA, both look well cared for, so it’s obvious the owner didn’t want to see them tuned into melted metal. The MGA used to belong to the man’s uncle, so there’s considerable sentimental value, plus it’s a rare spec.
We’ve seen quite a few fantastic vehicles, both classic and modern, destroyed in natural disasters just in recent years. Whether it’s flooding and mudslides from hurricanes or wildfires burning rides, we’re always sad to see someone’s beloved ride turned into scrap metal, if even that much is left.
Of course, it’s even more upsetting to lose your home in a disaster like this, something too many have experienced during the Mountain Fire in California and many, many more are going through with Hurricane Helene. But this man in Camarillo Heights seems genuinely grateful that at least his classic cars were saved at a time when he lost pretty much everything else.
As the wildfire continues to sweep through the area, more devastation seems certain. But we hope there are other stories of heroism and priceless memories preserved.
