A lot of people ship cars without any real problems, but a military family from one part of the country to another has had a horrible experience with an auto transport company. While it’s sad to hear about their frustrating time, there’s also a lesson to be learned since what happened to them could happen to anyone.

What a lot of people don’t understand is some car shipping services are more like brokerages. They don’t actually ship any vehicles but instead shop your bid with trucks that do. Some of those drivers engage in unscrupulous practices, something this couple has learned the hard way.
You can watch the whole WCVB news report to get all the details, but it basically comes down to a driver who decided he was going to get more money out of the military family instead of delivering their Mustang and Cherokee for the price they paid.
Since there was a contract and the couple handed over the vehicles, the legal system has been not as helpful as if someone had taken their cars without permission. However, these people haven’t given up and eventually got a court hearing, the transport driver skipping it and earning himself a bench warrant.
Their cars are probably long gone. We’re not attorneys so we can’t say for absolutely sure if legally this is theft, but it sure seems like it. How the transport driver can legally do anything with the vehicles other than return them is the big question we’d love answered.
But we’ve seen auto transport services steal cars and do other questionable things plenty of times. This is why we recommend doing homework on a service before signing anything or handing over money, and especially before giving them your keys.
Reputable auto transport companies aren’t always the cheapest up front. But the cheap ones can cost you big time in the long run.
