Teens driving recklessly in a Mercedes slammed into the Honda Civic making a left turn in Los Angeles, killing the elderly driver. It happened back on the night of November 14 with the horrific collision captured on surveillance footage.

Learn why an unhappy auto shop customer was almost legally silenced.

The aftermath of the fatal crash was recorded by OnScene TV, which also shared the footage of the accident. You can see how the driver of the Civic started his left turn when the black Merecedes sped through, slamming into the compact car, sending both vehicles spinning out of control.

It sounds like the teens weren’t injured in the crash, which isn’t surprising considering what car they were in. OnScene TV didn’t say if those teenagers were cited at all. Sometimes, citations in a crash like this aren’t handed out until a thorough investigation is conducted to gather all the facts.

Whether or not the teen driver is held responsible for the fatal collision, it clearly rattled people who live in the area. A crowd gathered to watch the aftermath, with at least one man remarking how he always passes through the same route the Civic was going.

One witness says the Mercedes was going between 85 and 90 mph at the time of the crash. That might have been why the Civic driver didn’t realize he couldn’t safely make his turn, inaccurately judging how fast the other car was traveling.

And that would explain why the teen driver seems to not even hit the brakes before colliding with the Honda, the crash happening in a split second. At that speed, a collision is far more likely to be fatal than if the Mercedes had been traveling close to the posted limit.

This crash serves as a reminder that even if you’re doing everything right on the road, you still have to watch for those who aren’t. Always be aware every time you’re behind the wheel.
