A man in Glendale, Arizona chased down a suspect who stole $50,000 in cash from his vehicle while he was looking at a truck to purchase. The chase was captured in multiple videos, including traffic cameras, showing how the victim fearlessly pursued the thief, holding him until the cops arrived.
This car thief shows incredible, stupid levels of determination.
Up front, we have to say for legal purposes you shouldn’t do this sort of thing. Obviously, this guy was lucky the thief didn’t have a gun, knife, or other weapon or he could’ve been seriously hurt or worse.
Not only that, the high-speed car chase that ensued between the suspect and victim could’ve ended with injuries or fatalities. As the victim pursued the suspect, you see in one of the traffic camera recordings that the thief ran a red light, smashing into a trailer pulled by a truck.
Had that been another car instead of an unoccupied trailer, the situation would’ve been far more serious. We’re not attorneys so we can’t say for sure, but there could be a possibility someone chasing a thief might be held at least in part responsible for a serious crash like that.
After the guy wrecked out into the trailer, he took off on foot with the bag full of cash, the victim chasing after him. We’ve seen foot chases like this on cop’s bodycams so many times where the suspect suddenly produces a gun and starts shooting at close range, if not a knife once police are on him. Luckily, this guy wasn’t armed.
A second suspect in the getaway car was detained by a bystander. Photos taken by police show some of the stolen cash on the car’s seats and floorboards.
We hope the victim got all his money back. But this situation shows that going to buy a vehicle with tens of thousands in cash on you comes with a tremendous amount of risk. It’s probably best to just go to the bank and get certified funds.
