Every once in a while we see sheriffs themselves go on chases, taking down suspects with brutal precision, showing why they’re the man in charge. Sheriff Gary Long of Butts County, Georgia does just that using his Dodge Charger 392 cruiser, proving that Mopar muscle does make enforcing the law a lot easier when suspects just won’t pull over.
Watch a sheriff go scorched earth on street takeover clowns.
The suspect in this chase is well known to law enforcement in the area, with a record. He also is the subject of a drug investigation, with undercover investigators suspecting he has two pounds of meth in his Nissan Rogue.
This chase footage should prove why the Rogue is better suited as a soccer mommy crossover and not a getaway car. We’re sure there are drug dealers rolling around in these things, but we can’t understand why that might be.
There are many superior cars for running from police, including a Toyota Prius, sadly. But even in those other rides, we’re not sure this guy would’ve stood a chance against Sherif Long and his muscle car.
In the bodycam footage from the deputy riding shotgun with the sheriff, we see the man in charge try lining up for a PIT maneuver attempt, but the suspect is able to slip away. The sheriff keeps on him, looking for an opportunity to go for it again.
And the suspect probably knows what’s coming. He drives as crazy as that little four-banger will allow, including taking a left turn too fast. That puts him on the grassy shoulder of an intersecting road. When he strafes back onto the pavement, the sheriff sees the broad side of the Nissan and takes his shot, T-boning the Rogue so hard it runs off the road again.
That does the trick and the big drug haul is intercepted, but the 392 is totaled in the process. Was it worth the sacrifice? Let us know what you think.
