A freak lumber truck accident in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania resulted in wood raining down on a car on Interstate 83, turning out nightmares into reality. They say knowledge is power, but realizing these types of accidents happen more often than most people would guess, which is never, only justifies our worries.

Somehow nobody was hurt in this accident, let alone killed, and that seems like a miracle. The tractor-trailer carrying the lumber was on a ramp that transitions from I-81 to I-83 when it overturned.
Dashcam footage taken by a car that escaped the chaos shows the lumber come tumbling down onto the interstate from the embankment, almost like a landslide of sorts. One car is caught in the middle of the mess as the wood pushes it off the left shoulder of the interstate.
We’ve seen two-by-fours and other lumber come off trucks and impale cars through their windshields and elsewhere, so the fact the car that was surrounded by wood wasn’t skewered is nothing short of amazing.
While the driver of that car wasn’t hurt, there’s no mention about damage to the vehicle. It’s not nearly as important as the person, but there’s no way the car went through that unscathed. Damages should be covered by the transport company’s insurance, at least eventually.
This was a freak accident and the cause isn’t known, but we hope investigators figure out what happened. We’ve seen other incidents where a vehicle has plunged off an overpass or side road onto a highway. And we’ve seen objects thrown from overpasses into car windshields with serious injuries or worse as a result. Needless to say, knowing that makes us nervous about overpasses.
