Two small airplanes have made emergency landings on roads in the United States in under two weeks, getting into crashes with cars afterward. The latest involves a craft in Victoria, Texas which landed on a busy road, coming to rest in an active intersection.
A freak accident involving a truck transporting lumber on the interstate is a nightmare come true.
A video taken of the emergency landing shared to X shows the airplane come in for the emergency landing, taking people on the ground by surprise. Another video shows the aftermath, the plane in pieces and several cars smashed up, debris scattered around an intersection. It looks like a genuine mess.

Some initial reports on social media claimed there were no injuries in the crash. However, in a press conference Victoria Police Chief Deputy Eline Moya told local media five were injured and taken to the hospital, with one “needing higher level care” and was transported to a hospital out of the area, which sounds serious.
We covered an incident on December 2 when a small plane landed on Interstate 15 near Payson, Utah. Even though the airplane was able to touch down and come to a stop without incident, it was subsequently part of a five-car pileup, leaving it damaged. Some people involved in that crash suffered serious injuries and one driver was killed.

While you might go your whole life never witnessing an airplane landing on a road, it seems like a funny coincidence that two have done this in under two weeks. We’re not saying it’s a trend or there’s any shared reason between the two incidents. Local and federal investigators are working both cases and a cause likely won’t be determined for a bit.
What this does reinforce is the notion that when you’re driving you need to stay alert and be ready for even unexpected events to happen. You just never know what could take place on the road and so you should always be prepared to take evasive, defensive action.
