Rolls-Royces have become popular targets at valets in different areas, but one man who recently swiped one quickly found out he couldn’t handle the ultra-luxury vehicle. Just a few miles away, the suspect crashed the stolen Cullinan into a Checkers fast food restaurant, turning the $400,000 SUV into a wrecking ball.

Valet steals car, allegedly causes fatal accident.

Police spotted the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and tried pulling it over, but the suspect panicked and took off. But the guy was obviously not prepared to deal with the full power of the British SUV, losing control of it and crashing ironically just across the street from the sheriff’s office, says WPLG.

The owner got quite the shock when he woke up at his hotel in Fort Lauderdale to be told his Rolls-Royce had been stolen. At this point we’d love to say we’re shocked a valet car was swiped by someone, but we see this happen all the time.

What’s not shocking at all is the suspect has two warrants for his arrest. One is out of California, the other from Broward County, Florida. That was obviously in part why the guy ran. Also, police would’ve wanted to see the car’s registration and would’ve figured out it didn’t belong to the driver.

Why valet services don’t have better security for vehicle keys is a big question we have. We supposed they want to provide fast service to customers, and securing keys properly would slow things down, but the potential liability for having cars stolen from valets seems like it would outweigh that.

We’re not saying to never use valet service, just know it’s not always the most secure. We’ve heard of some people just using the valet lot, pulling their own car in and taking the keys with them. That might be something to consider if you don’t want to park in a regular lot but don’t want your vehicle’s keys sitting in a valet stand for anyone to swipe.
