The Christmas season is supposed to be about spreading good cheer, but a man in a Santa Claus hat decided instead to steal and go joyriding in a family’s Hyundai. Unfortunately for him, the whole thing was captured on dashcam and police have the footage.
Florida cops are asking for help tracking down 30 violent street takeover suspects.
The real life Grinch swiped a Spring, Texas family’s 2014 Hyundai Sonata in the middle of the night. It was only once a constable knocked on their door, still in the wee hours of the morning, that they realized their car had been stolen out of the driveway.
By smashing the window and we’re sure doing that trick everyone on TikTok seems to know, the thief took off in the Hyundai. The dashcam recorded his over hour-long joyride around two neighborhoods as he hit a parked car and other inanimate objects, finally abandoning the vehicle but not before looking right at the running dashcam.
KHOU 11 blurred the face of the Santa hat-wearing man, explaining they did so since he’s only been named as a person of interest and not a suspect in the theft and joyride. Everyone will have opinions about that move, we’re sure.
Personally, we don’t feel much sympathy for car thieves. What they do is such a violation, not only emotionally for the victims but also financially. After all, a vehicle is usually the second most expensive thing families purchase, behind a house.
For someone to steal that puts a tremendous amount of pressure on people just trying to make it. The family who had their Hyundai stolen and joyridden are expecting a baby in a few months, something we’re sure the thief didn’t know and maybe doesn’t care about. What he did for some cheap thrills has put them in a pinch during the holidays, which is a real Grinch move.
