As the fire in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in Los Angeles, California rages out of control, cars abandoned on the side of the road have been catching fire. The same thing obviously has happened to vehicles left in garages or outside homes which have also been consumed by the blaze, adding to the tragedy.
Man body slams a single mother in a road rage incident.
Like we covered before, fire and police officials have in some cases told drivers to get out of their vehicles and walk or run to safety. Roads have been clogged with traffic, which has come to a standstill as the fast-moving blaze sweeps through, endangering everyone sitting in their vehicles.
That’s led to cars, many of them pricey luxury models like Teslas and Mercedes, being abandoned in the middle of streets. In some areas they’ve completely blocked off the road and since the keys were taken by owners as they fled on foot, fire officials have had to use bulldozers to move them out of the way.
Video footage taken by those who have been able to drive through areas where the fire is right up to the edge of roads like the Pacific Coast Highway shows how bad the situation is. Not only ash but live embers blow around the traveling cars like it’s a snowstorm, smoke cutting visibility.

Those videos also show the husks of homes and cars being consumed by flames. Trees, power poles, and anything else flammable seems to also be catching ablaze. There’s obviously a risk since even a moving vehicle can catch fire, making the situation rather desperate for those trying to escape.
With high winds spreading the Pacific Palisades and other fires in Southern California, we expect the destruction will worsen. Quite a few cars have been destroyed with more to come, including sadly a number of collectables. Of course, none of that measures up to human lives and even homes lost, but it’s still a sad outcome.
