Ford Issues Safety Recall For Over 240,000 SUVs Over Seatbelt Issues

It’s another day and another huge safety recall from Ford. This time around, 240,510 vehicles in the US are affected and it’s for a particularly scary reason having to do with seatbelts. You’re probably aware that seatbelts are one of the most essential safety devices for protecting you from serious injury or death in a crash.

Police say a classic car dealership’s website is one big scam.

In other words, not that we would tell anyone to blow off a safety recall, but this one you most especially should get repaired by an authorized dealer as soon as possible. After all, you don’t want to find out your vehicle has a problem with the seatbelts the hard way.

According to Reuters, an announcement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says certain 2020 to 2021 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator models are affected by the recall.

Apparently, the seat belt buckle bolts may be improperly secured. We guess that means someone didn’t torque the bolts to the proper spec – although that’s pure conjecture on our part. But we’ve seen other recalls caused by just such a thing, as unbelievable as that might seem.

Dealership service departments will be performing the seatbelt recall work by checking the bolts and replacing them as needed. Or maybe using the correct setting on their torque wrench.

While recalls have become entirely too common in recent years, Ford has been especially plagued by them recently. The most shocking of the company’s recalls so far this year has been Broncos with the Sasquatch trim experiencing the rear external shock reservoir suddenly falling off thanks to corrosion. That’s right, your newer Ford off-roader could literally be falling apart as you’re driving it.

Super Duty trucks as well as Expeditions and Lincoln Corsairs have also recently been recalled for rear camera problems. Ford CEO Jim Farley has vowed to address the pervasive quality control problems the automaker has been mired in, so we’ll see if he can pull it off.

Otherwise, the recalls and deluge of warranty claims will continue.
