People in a Pennsylvania town can’t believe authorities resorted to painting waving traffic lines on a stretch of road to get speeders to slow down. We’ve seen all kinds of interesting methods deployed to stop speeding, but this is a first for us. And no, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke.
Flip flops are being blamed for a woman crashing her Corvette.
According to Montgomery Township Police Department, the wavy lines were painted on Grays Lane March 28 as part of continuing “traffic calming measures.” This came after police say residents constantly complained about how the stretch of road had become a “speedway.”
We guess this should teach everyone to bitch and moan to police.
The department says other methods to slow people down are coming, namely chicanes or delineators. We’ve seen those used fairly often, along with speed bumps, speed humps, permanent radar signs, etc. But again, the wavy lane line method we believe is unprecedented.

CBS Philadelphia ran a story on the lane lines change, interviewing people who live in the area. Most had some rather harsh words for the weird government intervention, with one of the mildest being that the wavy lines are “awkward.”
Since police can pull someone over for crossing a double yellow or driving on the shoulder (crossing the solid white line) we assume there will be more patrols in the area to keep everyone from just driving straight like a normal person does.
Instead, drivers will be forced to essentially slalom down the street, something we think is a bit challenging for some. We also question if it will hold up in a court if challenged.
Chicanes, on the other hand, are also annoying but they have more bite since you can curb your wheels if you don’t slow down and take them carefully. Plus, they’ve been used all over, so there’s a precedent.
