Surveillance footage out of Miami Beach, Florida shows the moment when a red Camaro convertible hits a parked C8 Corvette, then takes off. The owner of the Corvette chased the other man while calling police, determined to hold him accountable for damage done to his sports car.
Boat rage erupts on a Florida river.
In the footage, you can see the C8 Corvette is parked next to a hulking Mercedes G-Wagon. Perhaps the luxury SUV blocked the Camaro driver’s view and he thought the next parking spot was empty. We’ve all done that, only to be disappointed upon seeing a smaller car occupying where we thought we could pull in.
Instead, the guy just keeps pulling forward like he doesn’t see the other vehicle, only stopping once he swaps paint with the Corvette. Then he slowly backs out, sits there while the other driver gets out of the sports car, exchanges words, then drives off.
As cellphone footage the victim shared with WSVN shows, the ensuing chase wasn’t at breakneck speeds. The Camaro driver stopped at intersections and seemed to be going at a regular pace, if not a little slow.
It makes us wonder if the guy was impaired and that’s why he was driving so slowly, plus didn’t clearly see the C8 Corvette in time to stop before hitting it. That’s something police will have to sort out.
Speaking of that, while he called 911 and a dispatcher told the Corvette driver to stop following the Camaro, cops finally showed up and pulled the fleeing suspect over. He wasn’t cited criminally, but WSVN found the surveillance footage of the collision and handed it over to police, who are calling it “evidence” but aren’t saying much else.
What do you think of this hit-and-run? Should the Camaro driver be facing a criminal charge? Was this just a misunderstanding? What do you think was the cause of the low-speed crash?
