Nissan Hood Fails To Latch Properly Even After Recall Repair

Nissan is facing renewed criticism after reports emerged that vehicles returned to owners following hood latch recall repairs have experienced hood opening while driving, suggesting that the recall fix being applied at dealerships may not be fully resolving the underlying defect. The original recall was issued to address a known issue with Nissan’s hood latch mechanism that could allow the hood to open unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion, creating an obvious safety hazard by obstructing the driver’s view. Having the same failure occur after the recall repair compounds the concern significantly.

Recalls that fail to resolve the issue they were designed to address represent a serious regulatory problem, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration monitors recall completion rates and remedy effectiveness closely. If the current fix is found to be systematically inadequate, Nissan would likely be required to issue a second recall with a more effective remedy. Owners of affected vehicles who have had the recall performed and are experiencing continued hood latch concerns are urged to return to their dealers immediately and to document the issue thoroughly for the NHTSA complaint database.
