Video: Cadillac Escalade Head-On Crash Was Entirely Avoidable

Many times, when we share dashcam footage of a traffic accident we ask everyone to decide who’s at fault, but this head-on collision involving a Cadillac Escalade is pretty cut and dry. That doesn’t mean it isn’t amazing to watch. Honestly, we’ve never seen anything quite like it.

Who’s at fault in this incredibly slow, avoidable crash?

In the footage, which was shared to the subreddit IdiotsInCars, our camera car is sitting at a red light waiting to turn left. But in the distance, the already damaged Escalade comes driving along, signaling a rapidly approaching danger.

Not only does the luxury SUV have front end and hood damage, the driver crosses the median as if to turn left, but then continues straight in the oncoming traffic lanes. Thankfully, nobody with the green light in the intersection turned left or right onto the stretch of road where the Caddie was driving.

Rather than stop at the intersection, which had a fair amount of traffic flowing through it, the Escalade driver hesitated for a moment, then snaked through, barely missing several vehicles.

We hear the camera car honk once the Escalade entered the intersection, signaling for everyone else to watch out and maybe to get the other driver to stop. However, we fear all that did was draw the Caddie to that specific vehicle, because the driver steered right at it, hitting it head-on.

Registration expired. May not have insurance. We’re still sorting it out [OC]

According to the victim in this crash, who apparently posted the dashcam video on Reddit, the Cadillac had expired registration and “may not have insurance” coverage. Yikes.

As others point out, the driver clearly hit someone or something before the recorded incident. There could be a number of reasons for this, including intoxication or mental illness. We hope police are getting to the bottom of what happened, because it’s possible the responsible party needs to be barred from driving for a long time.
