Not everyone is a fan of the Toyota MR2, a fact we’re comfortable with. After all, it means prices haven’t soared to ridiculous levels, which is why this one we recently ran across for sale online can be had relatively cheaply.
An arrogant Porsche 911 GT3 RS owner learns a hard lesson.
Sure, it doesn’t have a fire-breathing V8, which would be a lot of fun, but that would also mean demand for it would push values incredibly high. Instead, you get a transversely mounted inline-four. This W10 (that’s the first generation of the MR2) doesn’t have the supercharged mill, just the naturally aspirated one.

But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a blast to drive. If you’ve ever gotten behind the wheel of an MR2, you know how incredibly entertaining they are. No, they’re not drag racers by any means, but on twisting, winding backroads and even navigating a city circuit, they cut through turns like a hot knife through butter.
Sounds cliché? Try it and you’ll realize it isn’t.
This is a T-top car, which is fun for when the weather is nice, which we would think is when you’d want to pull this ride out of the garage anyway. It has just shy of 200,000 miles on it, so not everything is going to be perfect.
The seller said the slave and master cylinders were recently replaced, so at least you don’t have to worry about those. But the heat and AC are both out. And that black paint isn’t original, the previous owner having that done, which the seller admits “is not exactly in perfect condition.”

Thankfully, this car doesn’t have a bunch of crazy, tacky mods. It does ride lower than stock on some coilovers, plus has clear taillights/side markers, plus LED headlights, but those all look nice. Plus, it has nice Momo quick release steering wheel, but the OE one is included, too.
The Fast and Furious crowd haven’t ruined this classic Toyota, so we’re hoping someone who appreciates it as-is will scoop it up.
Although we have to say we’re not huge fans of the wheels. But the seller says the stock wheels and tires are available if you’d rather have those.
For the right person, this will be a dream ride. Others might wonder what the big deal is, and that’s okay by us.
