Toyota Recalls Almost Half A Million Tundras

The current third generation Toyota Tundra trucks are the subject of yet another massive safety recall. There’s apparently an issue that can cause the reverse lights to suddenly stop working. Obviously, that increases the risk of accidents.

Toyota is starting to get more serious about EVs.

According to the recall notice, the problem comes from moisture intrusion into the reverse light housing. About 443,000 Tundras have been recalled so the issue can be repaired before any real damage is done.

As moisture collects inside the reverse lights, which are supposed to be sealed against the elements, the lights can suddenly fail. In addition, the wiring might corrode, further complicating a repair.

Reverse lights let other drivers and pedestrians know you’re backing up, helping to avoid accidents. With the lights no longer working, others might not realize the Toyota truck is about to back up, leading to dangerous situations.

Even worse, the reverse lights on the Tundra light up things for the reverse camera in low light situations. With the reverse lamps working, the camera feed is dark and essentially useless to drivers.

To rectify the problem, Toyota will notify truck owners of the recall starting in July. You can contact your local dealership if you own a 2022 to 2025 Tundra and want to know if yours is included in the recall.

If so, a dealer will replace both reverse light units on the rear of the truck and inspect the wiring harness for signs of corrosion, repairing or replacing anything that looks troubling.

Lately, it seems no automaker is free of big recalls. After all, Toyota last year did a massive recall on third-gen Tundras as well as fourth-gen Lexus LXs, replacing the engines on almost 100,000 vehicles thanks to crankshaft bearings reportedly failing from machining debris which had been left in the manufacturing process.

Now Toyota is issuing yet another big recall on newer Tundras.
